FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

From the 22nd – 23rd October, the first international forum, “RENEWABLE ENERGY: TOWARDS RAISING ENERGY AND ECONOMIC EFFICIENCIES” (REENFOR-2013) will be held in Moscow at the initiative of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and Non-Profit Partnership “Scientific-Technical Council of the Unified Energy System”.

REENFOR, the body organising the Forum, is made up of Scientific Councils of RAS for Complex Energy Problems, for Renewable Energy Sources (RES), for Reliability and Security of Large Power Systems and Non-profit Partnership “Agency of scientific and business communications” (NP “ANDK”).

It is expected REENFOR will be held with support from the State Duma Committee on Energy, the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Energy, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Ministry of Regional Development, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Ministry of the Russian Federation development of the Far East, and other ministries and agencies responsible for the effective development of renewable energy sources (RES) in the various economic sectors and regions of Russia, and the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR).

In attendance at REENFOR will be leading representatives from Russia's energy industry, including: “RusHydro”, “Inter RAO UES”, “Russian Railways”, “Rosatom”, “Lukoil”, “Rosneft”, “Gazprom”, Federal Grid Company of Unified Energy System, “Russian network”, “RAO Energy System of East” and various other representatives from Russia's energy market.

REENFOR also expects developmental state funds and institutions to partner, including: “RVC” the State Corporation “Vnesheconombank” Fund “Skolkovo”, “RUSNANO” Technological platforms that implement projects in the field of renewable energy, and others. Partners of the Forum have expressed a willingness to form the “International Finance Corporation” (IFC), a Non-profit partnership on development of the international research and projects in the field of energetic «Global Energy».

The aim of REENFOR is to consider the issues surrounding efficiency and practical uses of advanced renewable technologies, how to improve their output and economic performance in various climatic and socio-economic conditions and to analyze the best practices in the use of RES in Russia. Such pressing issues have not always been given the attention they warrant.

REENFOR is expecting the involvement of representatives from leading international organizations, research centers and foreign companies active in the field of renewable energy. The international character of REENFOR is a pragmatic recognition of the international experience that exists to inform on these issues. We aim to establish closer scientific, technical and business cooperation amongst parties interested in participating in the development of RES in Russia. We also aim to discuss their potential participation in creating a prototype model for renewable energy installations within Russia.

The Forum will be organised in plenary sessions, panel discussions and presentations by companies and regional representatives on the issues on the development and practical uses of available conversion technologies, such as: solar, wind, biomass, hydrokinetic, geothermal, natural and low-grade waste heat pumps and other renewable energy sources.

Russian technology platforms will conduct research, organisational activities and discussions at the forum, centred on strategic research and development programs in the field of renewable energy resources. Platforms showcasing at REENFOR are the “Prospective Technologies of Renewable Energy Sources” platform, the “Small-scale Distributed Power” platform, the “Bioenergy” platform and the “Environmentally Friendly, High Efficiency Thermal Power” platform.

REENFOR is also considering organising these topics for the youth section of the conference.

Discussions at REENFOR will be centred round the following themes:

  • The role of renewable energy in centralised, regional and independent power systems.  RES and its position within Russia’s energy strategy.
  • The technical and economic implementation of cutting-edge renewable technologies, looking at the conditions in which they best function and the benefits they can bring to consumers.
  • Developmental renewable energy incentives and the role of both federal and regional governments and domestic and international financial institutions in this process.
  • Problems encountered in training and retraining specialists in the field of renewable energies.
  • Priority R&D projects of RES within Russian federal target programmes and technological platforms.

Discussions, specialised workshops, seminars and other events will be held regularly during the year, with annual events also taking place. These are aimed at compiling and disseminating the latest developments and technical assistance surrounding practical uses of renewable energy sources in Russia and abroad.

There are 300 participants expected at this years event.
